Howdy, I’m John.
I like light.
I am a Chicago based filmmaker with a background in narrative, commercial, documentary filmmaking. I work as a Director of Photography, gaffer, and other support roles on productions in camera and g&e. I operate in crew roles and small footprint videography productions ranging in differing tiers of production.
I also have a selection of camera packages, lenses, and support available for on site production or private rentals. Full gear list available upon request.
My goal is to create unique perspectives as a storyteller for directors. From a perspective that caters to indulge in visual design, form, and in some cases, the absurd. I constantly look for ways to improve my craft and carry a foundation in key collaboration. I hope to give vision to others seeking to share their stories, experiences, and vision.
I have a passion for working with creative design in filmmaking, as well as extensive technical prowess with various industry cameras, lights, and other hardware on set. I have years of rental house experience being hands on with current production tools and resources. My work carries into my documentary photography as an observer in the world we inhabit. I also work on experimental music/sound design at home. I have been exploring scoring for drama and horror, as well as general atmospheric pieces.
